Supermarket giant Asda is to open a new store at Whalebone Lane South Retail Park in Chadwell Heath, creating up to 250 jobs.
Site owner Land Securities said the retailer has rented a unit previously occupied by B&Q and that work was due to start on improving access arrangements and the car park.
It said the food store was expected to open by the end of the year.
Meanwhile, B&M stores has signed a 15-year lease on the adjacent former Comet store.
Land Securities portfolio director Hermione Mackrill said Whalebone Lane would be transformed by the developments. “We are delighted to welcome ASDA and B&M Stores, which will bring jobs and investment into the community."
