Architectural ideas to transform a 0.26ha brownfield site in Barking into green space for the community will be put forward to form a design competition in 2014.
Candidates have been given guidelines to build a spa at the site, which will be encompassed in a 'pocket park' and include treatment rooms, a sauna, bar and events space and a cycle hub.
The facility will be managed by health and beauty therapists currently operating spa treatments at Barking Bathhouse.
An exhibition of entries will be put on public display, and considered by a panel of judges. Following a shortlisting process and the selection of a winner, it is hoped that the facility will be open to the public by 2015.
