NU living, part of the Swan Housing Group, is to create a residential-led development on Cambridge Road in Barking town centre – an area which is a designated housing zone.
The Greater London Authority and government housing zone initiative invited councils to submit applications for the status, with successful bids setting out the commitment to accelerate the progress of schemes through the planning process.
The scheme features 260 homes and the recreational Bath House facility, which will offer a range of holistic treatments.
NU living is currently drawing up its plans for the scheme with award-winning architectural practice Studio Egret West in advance of submitting a planning application to the council later this year.
Geoff Pearce, Swan’s Executive Director of Development and Regeneration said: “We believe that this project will contribute to the transformation of the town centre by providing modern stylish new homes and a new destination bathhouse.”
If planning is approved, it is expected that work on the project will begin in 2016 and take around three years to complete.
