Be First, the development company owned by Barking and Dagenham Council, has launched a competition to design the next phase of its 300 million regeneration of the Gasgoigne West estate, soon to be renamed Weaver's Quarter.

With the first 421-unit Levitt Bernstein-designed phase due to complete later this year, Be First seeks new designers to deliver a new vision for the original masterplan by Allies and Morrison.

The project is set to deliver around 1,575 homes close to Barking town centre.

Shortlisted teams will receive a £10,000 stipend each to draw up proposals for the designs, which are required to increase housing density for the new phase of development.
